Continue reading »]]> Some of the passions I have hardly come out during the regular course of life. May be because of my busy lifestyle or may be because I am surrounded by people who beat me in passion in those areas.

One such passion for me is cooking. It hardly comes out because my wife is one of the best cooks in my life and I know I can never match her. However, my cooking skills come out once in a while, especially in my wife’s absence.

One thing I realized is that I can’t cook in small quantities. I need at least 4-6 servings to be cooked for a decent result.

Continue reading »]]> Ever in a situation where the door blinds are broken by someone and you don’t have time to get new ones? Here is a simple and stupid (but works) way to fix them.

Here are the bill of materials that you need:

• Broken Blinds (yes, this is what we are fixing…)
• Clear tape (Duct tape gives a look that is too classic for system administrators)
• Clear Plastic Tabs used with file folders
• Hole Punch (not shown in the picture)

How to do it:

• Punch a hole in the Plastic Tab, guessing the depth it would need from the top of the tab
• Insert the tab on either side of the blind and position the hole.
• Use Clear tape to wrap the contents
• If Clear tape closes the hole during the previous step, make sure that the hole is punched again.

Continue reading »]]> అమెరికాలో కోక్ తరువాత నేను ఎక్కువగా ఇష్టపడేది డాక్టర్ పెప్పర్. సుమారు పదిహేనేళ్ళ క్రితం మొదటిసారి డాక్టర్ పెప్పర్ తాగినపుడు మనసెటో వెళ్ళిపోయింది. వేరేరకం వెళ్ళిపోవడం అనుకునేరు సుమా, అప్పటికే నాకు పెళ్ళయిపోయింది. నాలుకమీది చిల్డ్ డాక్టర్ పెప్పర్ బిందువులు చిన్నప్పటి పల్లెటూరి ఉదయాలను గుర్తు చేసాయి. ఎడమచేతిలో పళ్ళపొడిని వేసుకొని, కుడిచేతిలోని టూత్‌బ్రష్‌ని చల్లని నూతినీళ్ళలో ముంచి, దానికి నెమ్మదిగా పళ్ళపొడి అద్ది నోట్లొ పెట్టుకున్న ఫీలింగ్ కలిగింది డాక్టర్ పెప్పర్ నోట్లోకి వెళ్ళగానే. ఇప్పటికీ డాక్టర్ పెప్పర్ తాగుతున్నపుడు చిన్నప్పుడు మిస్సయిన పళ్ళపొడి తినడాన్ని ఇప్పుడు భర్తీ చేసినట్లనిపిస్తుంది.

మేము రెండు రకాల పళ్ళపొడి వాడేవాళ్ళం – అందరికీ తెలిసిన కాల్గేట్ ఒకటయితే కొందరికి మాత్రమే తెలిసిన జెమినీ పళ్ళపొడి రెండవది. జెమినీ పళ్ళపొడి పాకెట్ మీద బూరాలు ఊదుతున్న ఇద్దరు అబ్బాయిల బొమ్మలుండేవి. అందువల్ల నాకూ, మా తమ్ముడికీ జెమినీ ఎక్కువ నచ్చేది. అంతేగాక జెమినీ పళ్ళపొడిలో మంచి లవంగం రుచి ఉండేది. ఆ కారణంగా నాకు డాక్టర్ పెప్పర్ రుచి కాల్గేట్ కన్నా జెమినీ పళ్ళపొడికి దగ్గరగా అనిపిస్తుంది. జెమినీ పళ్ళపొడిని మాటిమాటికీ గుర్తుకు తెస్తున్న డాక్టర్ పెప్పర్ కి ధన్యవాదాలు.

Continue reading »]]> As the enterprises are shifting more towards smart phone based access of company wide resources, the emphasis on establishing a secure connection between the nomadic device (read cell phone or tablet) and the enterprise is increasing. A tablet is mostly seen as an evolution of laptop and hence is expected to run applications like VPN clients anyway. However, a smart phone is more of an extension of the voice communications device and its ability to establish a secure “tunnel” back home requires a bit of digesting.

US National Security Agency (NSA)’s mobility program recently published the Mobility Compatibility Package Guide. This guide talks about various architectural components of the Secure Smartphone VOIP over cellular network. The key requirements presented in this guide is an interesting read.

One of the key challenges would be to manage the applications on the mobile device from provisioning and security viewpoints. That would most likely require a VPN tunnel between the device and the enterprise using the carrier network.

Continue reading »]]> Today we had a blast! The SRKR Engineering College Alumni Meet is a great success. About 400 alumni and 20+ faculty members attended the grand event. The event is hosted by Oakridge School and their arrangements are top notch – Multi Purpose Hall, Audio Visual Equipment, Food, Power backups, Facilities logistics and what not – every things is top quality. The event started a bit late because of delayed arrival for registrations. We had to rush thru some of the proceedings but finally made sure that every registrant captured nice moments with their classmates and friends.

NetEnrich is one of the sponsors of the event. We ran a slideshow that discusses how our industry academic interactions helped each other.

Continue reading »]]> ఈ వారం స్వాతి వారపత్రికలో ముళ్ళపూడి అనూరాధగారి తోక కొమ్మచ్చి ఒక అనుకోని ఆహ్లాదం (టెల్గూలో ప్లెజంట్ సర్ప్రయిజు అన్నమాట.) పూర్వీకుల ప్రస్తావనలు మెండుగా ఉన్న కోతికొమ్మచ్చిలో  అనువంశీకుల ప్రస్తావనలు అస్సలు లేవు – రమణగారి ఉద్దేశపూర్వకంగానేనేమో. అనూరాధగారు తెలుగు సరిగా రాదంటూనే తెలుగువారి కలికితురాయి రాతలని మళ్ళీ గుర్తుచేసారు. కోతులతోటలో తోకలెక్కువగా ఉండటంవల్ల కొన్ని పేరాలు మళ్ళీ మళ్ళీ చదివి సంబంధబాంధవ్యాలను  అర్ధంచేసుకోవలసి వచ్చింది. పునఃపఠనం ఆహ్లాదానందకారకం.

మొదటి సంపాదన చెక్కుని ఎక్కువడబ్బులకి ఎక్స్ఛేంజీ తీసుకుందామనుకున్న తండ్రీ, సర్టిఫికేట్లను ఫొటోలు కట్టించి షీల్డులపక్కన పెట్టిన తండ్రీ కలిసి గుండెను తడిపారు. స్నేహితుడికి కూరలు తీసిఉంచడాలూ, డ్రైవరు సమయానికి భోంచేయలేదని అలగడాలూ మానవసంబంధాల మునుపటి కోణాలు. గోల్డ్స్‌కి పుట్టిన కూతురు గోల్డ్‌స్పాట్ కావటం డార్విన్‌ని అబ్బురపరచగల ప్రకృతిసిధ్ధ పరిణామం.

సందర్భానుసారంగా ఉన్న బాపు పొదుపుగీతలు రాతల భావాన్ని ఇనుమడింపజేసాయి. పాదాలు చూసి ఫ్లాటయ్యి పారాణి గీయడం, గాడిద చెవులు, కషాయం గరాటు, లేడీసు పాలిటిక్సు వగైరాలు దేనికవే.

Continue reading »]]> This year, only myself and Surya managed to go to our native village during Sankranti. We decided to drive to that place in our Xylo. The onward journey took more than 12 hours, including a few hours of visits to relatives en-route. The drizzle hit highway reduced our speed and we fully complied with that need.

Once we reached our village, it is a travel spree. I covered a bunch of backlog visits to relatives, visiting some of the places after about a decade or so. Most of these visits turned out to be reciprocal, keeping us busy throughout the festive season. The local visits lasted 400+km of driving within a 25km radius.

Gathering of relatives and friends in our village turned out to be a decent success. Bunch of planning sessions, makeshift tents, food courts and other arrangements kept the guests comfortable enough.

Used my Xylo to the maximum extent during the trip. Loaded it fully during some local trips, used it to transport large sized items like sugarcane and while returning, used it to carry essential items for an upcoming wedding.

Each day of the trip followed a very simple pattern – eat a lot of spicy and non-veg food; top it up with ice creams etc. to avoid acidity; drive; meet people; eat again and repeat until end of day.

During our return (which is preempted by more than a day to the last day of the festival) we found that the highway is deserted and we covered the distance in about 7 hours.

Milind and Sriya joined Spurthi and Surya in welcoming the new year at our home. After our dinner on 31st, kids spent a couple of hours with friends in the apartment complex. Once they are back, we cut the cake when the clock struck zero hours. The writing of the year 2012 on the cake almost ended up the cake in the cakewrecks list .
