GDP Growth

Monday, November 30th, 2009

India, Inc. reported a 7.9% growth in GDP in the September Quarter. This negated the Dubai Fever a bit today.

శోభారాజు గారి ఇంటర్వ్యూ

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Melting Markets

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Dubai fever has hit the markets. Most Asian markets are down anywhere from 1-4% today. How would that impact global economies going forward? For example, are gold prices going to head higher? would Oil go lower? Would real estate go lower?

We need to wait and see.

Voted today

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

I voted today in the Hyderabad city elections. Went to the polling booth at about 8.20am, before heading to work. Me and Latha are the only voters during our presence there, for all the 3 booths being operated there in the premises. Looks like the voter turnout is really bad. Latha said the right punchline: “Looks like there are more police than voters”

Missing Hyderabad 10k Run 2009

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Today is Hyderabad 10K Run. We really enjoyed last year’s run. This year, due to the after effects of viral fever, my wrists and ankles are not back to good condition yet. So I stayed away from the run this year. Spurthi headed there with her schoolmates though. Sitting home, I am missing the run very much.

Villa visit

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Lot of pending items piled up for Saturday. Could take care of some of them. Visited Satish (couldn’t attend his wedding on Friday) and then went to Kompally. After lunch at NCL, headed to SA Habitat. Visited our Villa. The progress is brisk and the landscaping is coming up pretty well. The curbs are being laid with the stones and plants. Grass is coming up fast in open areas, reducing the dust.

The plants in the central park are well chosen. There are patches of low plant growth here and there, but I think it won’t take much time for the landscaping to show its full and finest view.

BTW, the pictures are taken with my Blackberry at 2MP quality. I am not really impressed with the pictures, but the Balckberry really came up handy during this visit.

Poolapalli Get Together

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Today is the last weekend for the Hindu-Telugu month of Karthika. This month, people in parts of the state follow the norm of having a community lunch in a garden or forest, popularly known as Vanabhojanamulu.

Our folks from the village of Poolapalli scheduled a outing today in one of the gardens in Miyapur. We reached there by about 9.00am for a heavy breakfast: Idly, Vada, Bajji, Puri and Nookalannam. Then kids started playing cricket and other games. Ladies started having their own competitions and Bingo games. Some of the men played card games. Lunch is catered a little after noon and is very tasty. Surya is dehydrated a bit and started throwing up, but recovered in a couple of hours.

We took a photo of the group (actually, most of the attendees: some of them left early). We also had a small prize distribution ceremony, followed by fruits and tea. Post tea hour, we headed back home.

Here are pictures from the day:

Markets

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Sensex has been alternating between positive and negative zones during the week. However, it is well supported at the 16,400 level, a good sign from a statistical standpoint.

During the weekend, the Prime Minister indicated that the stimulus plans will be backed out in the next calendar year. So people anxiously waited how the market sentiment would be. Some people felt that withdrawal is too premature. Others felt that is a positive sign that the economy is heading out of the woods. Looks like the market supported the later school of thought.

We need to see how the next few sessions fare.

Optical Illusions

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

This is one of the best optical illusions I have seen.

Weather

Monday, November 9th, 2009

The weather is very cloudy (in Hyderabad) since Sunday morning and it started drizzling occasionally since Sunday. A bit inconvenient, but enjoyable weather over here. However, south coastal Andhra and southern Rayalaseema are facing heavy rains, potentially damaging properties and crops. I think this year saw lot of untimely rains playing havoc, still not enough rainfall at the right time and at right places.
