Bought “Solaris Internals” Book

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Today, I bought a copy of Solaris Internals: Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris Kernel Architecture by Richard McDougall and Jim Mauro. The previous edition of the book is available in Low Priced Indian Edition (Rs 500) and this International edition costed me Rs 4000 approximately. This book is worth that price.

A quick glance thru the table of contents tells me that there are new chapters added for Process Rights Management, Zones etc.

May take a few weeks before I dig deeper into this book.

Good Advertisements

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

A couple of advertisements I liked in the past two weeks or so:

First one is from Babool bubblegum. The ad starring three birds, a turtle and a monkey is very impressive. The colors and animation are very appealing, the voice overs are perfect and the theme is excellent. A refreshing advertisement.

The second one is from Idea Cellular. The ad featuring a monkey that steals a phone but returns it back due to continuous calls (read good signal reception) wherever it goes. Builds a lot of curiosity and adds good amount of fun.

Spurthi out for a week long trip

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Spurthi went for a school trip yesterday to Delhi and Shimla. She will be back in about a week. This is the first time we gave her a cell phone during a trip, so she is busy experimenting it.

She packed a good quantity of Chicken Biriyani for dinner yesterday and looks like many of her tripmates liked it. She and her tripmates called home exclusively talk about the biriyani.

New Charts on Yahoo!

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

Just now checked out the the new charts on Yahoo! Finance that are in Beta now. Cool. Very Good UI. The Y-axis that is presented on the right hand side might be not very intuitive to figure out initially, because we are all used to the Y-axis on the left edge and X-axis on the bottom edge.

Lalu at IIM

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

Well, this is something I wouldn’t have dreamt a few years ago, but this happened. Lalu is teacher-for-a-day at IIM-A, India’s premier business school. Report here.

No matter what his past record is, Lalu is the person behind turn around of Indian Railways. His efforts should be appreciated.
