Rakhi 2010

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

We celebrated Rakhi in a big way this year. Instead of each one of us roaming around for Raksha Bandhan, we did a breakfast get-together at our place. With about 35 visitors on the day, it is a good gathering after a long time. We all felt it is very convenient to celebrate the festival this way, so that we can meet everyone at the same place. Here are some pictures:

Rakhi2010

Breakfast menu is simple (Idly, Upma, Vada, Puri with Chicken Curry) but has a decent range. With quite a few varieties of sweets, the breakfast session is heavy. But it is worth it…
Thanks everyone who visited! It is a great day.

పనస తొనలు

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

InOribit

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Headed to InOrbit mall this week, to celebrate Rishita’s birthday. It is my first visit to the mall and felt that it is very well maintained. Still lot of construction though. Roamed around in the mall for an hour and then settled for dinner at McDonalds.

In addition to all the nice shops there, I really like the parking facility. I also like the open food court.

Sankranti Gathering - Food

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

The gathering is relatively small (compared to last year) during this Sankranti Festival in our village. The term small is a relative one here, and it refers to about 300 people during most meals of the 3 day festival. Pictures linked here are taken on the first day of the festival during breakfast.

To give you a hint on the scale, about 35kgs (75+lbs) of chicken is cut every day for evening snacks. This is on top of about 150 boiled/fried eggs and other food items. We consumed about 300kgs of meat during those 3 days.To save myself from the side effects of the spicy food, I consumed about 4 cones, 4 bowls (3 scoops each) and 3 cups of ice cream during those 3 days.  Stopped counting the sweets and fruits I ate.

Met lot of people and spent good amount of time in various activities. In the backdrop of the photos, you can see the temporary tents erected to accommodate  activities for the large gathering.

Happy New Year

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Happy New Year to you all.

We welcomed the new year at our guest house in Kompally. 4-5 families gathered there by 7.00pm in the evening on Thrusday. Kids played several games till dinner. The dinner menu is simple: Prawns biriyani, chicken curry and sambar, along with plain rice and curd. Kids stayed indoors until midnight. After the cake is cut, they started lighting fireworks. That session lasted for more than 2 hours. After a short sleep break, kids started playing cricket in the morning. They also spent some time at the farm animal cages. Breakfast menu is Idly and Pesarattu-Upma (Moong Dosa with Upma, the typical West Godavari combination.) After that, we headed to my brothers place. After spending an hour there, we reached home during lunch time.

Poolapalli Get Together

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Today is the last weekend for the Hindu-Telugu month of Karthika. This month, people in parts of the state follow the norm of having a community lunch in a garden or forest, popularly known as Vanabhojanamulu.

Our folks from the village of Poolapalli scheduled a outing today in one of the gardens in Miyapur. We reached there by about 9.00am for a heavy breakfast: Idly, Vada, Bajji, Puri and Nookalannam. Then kids started playing cricket and other games. Ladies started having their own competitions and Bingo games. Some of the men played card games. Lunch is catered a little after noon and is very tasty. Surya is dehydrated a bit and started throwing up, but recovered in a couple of hours.

We took a photo of the group (actually, most of the attendees: some of them left early). We also had a small prize distribution ceremony, followed by fruits and tea. Post tea hour, we headed back home.

Here are pictures from the day:

Food, food, food…

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Today’s lunch and dinner menu is calorie rich. Visited a relative’s place for lunch. Fried eggs and chicken fry for starters. Mutton biriyani, Chicken fry and Mutton curry for the main course. Top off the day with Haleem for dinner. What a day!

Iftar

Spurthi’s birthday pics

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Delayed upload of pictures from Spurthi’s birthday:

SpurthiBDay2009

We planned for a limited attendance event on that day. Spurthi’s classmates came to our place after school. Afternoon snacks are at Just Bake: Chocolate temptation, Chocolate excess and chilli manchurian. Top off with Thums Up. Cake is from the same place: Death by chocolate. Dinner menu is simple: Couple of veg snacks, couple of chinese dishes, fried rice and noodles. Joined kids after my evening meetings to watch (again) - Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix. Very nice day indeed.

Virtual Food Festival

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

It is a virtual food festival in Hyderabad for the last one week. With all the Ganesha idols in every nook and corner of the city, there are prasadams distributed everywhere. The precursor to visiting the Ganesha idol in our apartment complex is to have dinner and go. Otherwise, you are fed with so much prasadam that you have to skip dinner. Really nice food.

Another food event in the city is Haleem. During this month, you get haleem till midnight in most parts of the city. I already had a couple of late night Haleem servings in the last few days.

Good times!
